The difference between single/multimode fiber for industrial-grade fiber media converter

Fiber media converter can be divided into single-mode fiber and multi-mode fiber according to the transmission mode in the fiber. The most fundamental difference between single-mode  and multi-mode is the transmission distance.

Industrial grade fiber media converter: the difference between single-mode fiber and multi-mode fiber:
(1) Single-mode fiber uses solid-state laser as light source, and multi-mode fiber uses light-emitting diode as light source;
(2) Single-mode fiber has a wide transmission frequency and long transmission distance, but it needs a laser source, which is relatively expensive, and multimode fiber has low transmission speed, short distance and low cost;
(3) The core diameter and dispersion of single-mode fiber are small, and only one mode of transmission is allowed;
(4) Multimode fiber has large core diameter and dispersion, allowing hundreds of modes to be transmitted.
(5) The fiber core of the multimode optical cable is thick, and the price is relatively more expensive.

Industrial-grade fiber media converter: the difference between single-mode optical module and multi-mode optical module:
(1) The wavelength of the multi-mode optical module is 850nm; single-mode optical module is 1310nm, 1550nm;
(2) The devices used in single-mode optical modules are twice that of multi-mode optical modules, so the overall cost of single-mode optical modules is higher than that of multi-mode optical modules;
(3) The transmission distance of single-mode optical modules can reach 100km; multi-mode optical modules is only 2km.
